I thought driving on the freeway would blow them off, but, that didn’t happen.
I thought going through the car wash would remove them, but, no deal.
The spider webs were still on my car door mirrors.
Spider silk is flexible, stretchable and 5x stronger than steel. The silk from the Caerostris Darwini spider is 10x stronger than Kevlar. (Bulletproof vests usually made out of Kevlar are now being made with spider silk.)
In these days, we’re constantly being pummeled by disruptive, challenging, unfamiliar circumstances and being knocked off our center. We snap at loved ones, flip off drivers, berate ourselves for not performing “like we used to.”
We may say we’re “fine,” but I suspect that’s just easier than saying we’re not.
Testing 1-2-3
Each day gives us a pop quiz, asking: What really matters now and what are you doing to defend it?
Maybe we’ve asked and answered that question. Or, maybe today’s test is at a whole new level of consequences and we need to ponder it again.
What does really matter now? What am I standing “for”?
Taking a stand doesn’t mean dig your heels in, be positional, be rigid. Taking a stand means knowing what matters to you and holding your ground, even as you are being knocked about by circumstances. Your values are your web and living them will keep you grounded.
You don’t need anyone’s agreement to take a stand. You are all you need.
When the Itsy Bitsy spider gets washed out of the water spout, she goes up again once the sun’s dried it out. Itsy Bitsy … small and mighty, willing to get up again and again to move forward, undaunted into the winds.
What silky stand are you taking to keep yourself grounded? What values are in your web?
