Be the frig light

The light’s purpose is to illuminate what’s in the frig, not to bring attention to itself.

Its function, its role in the system, is to make it easy for someone to see what’s present and what’s missing.

We count on the light: On when the door’s open. Off when the door’s shut.

The light is rarely noticed … unless it goes out.

If you find yourself feeling unappreciated, overlooked, under-valued, and perhaps in danger of burning out, use your voice to illuminate what you contribute.

Speak up about what you are accomplishing.

Speak up about what you see as missing so it can be provided.

Speak up about the trust you need to be count-on-able.

Of course, we wish others would recognize our value and thank us for it. We wish we didn’t have to toot our own horn.

Of course.

But that wishing is a way for us frig lights to avoid responsibility for and being “on”, even when the door is shut and no one’s looking.

Be the frig light.
